Mission and History
SRO,
located in Columbus, Ohio, was established in 1984, and incorporated as a
nonprofit 501 (c)(3) corporation in 1989.
The name of the company was changed from Grandparents Living
Theatre to SRO (Senior Repertory of Ohio) Theatre Company in May of 1999.
SRO is committed to artistic
excellence, wholesome educational and intergenerational family
entertainment and community service.
The mission of SRO is to create
and enhance positive images of aging which:
-
Enrich
the lives of others and contribute to the richness of the community.
-
Celebrate
our values, ingenuity, creativity and productivity and dispel myths
about aging.
-
Sculpt
intergenerational friendship, understanding and compassion in
families, communities and cultures.
The
company develops original and revives existing productions and achieves
the highest level of artistry by blending professional, semi-professional
and amateur performers who live in Ohio.
The company adheres to a policy of color-blind casting and makes
performances accessible to people with hearing impairments and other
physical challenges. SRO’s
aim has been to be a national player in Senior Adult Theatre by creating
original works, participating in innovative collaborations and continuing
to elevate standards for national and international Senior Adult Theatre.
The
work has been a challenge and a joy to those who built the company into
one of the most distinguished and respected senior theatre companies in
the world. The Founding
Director, Joy Reilly of The Ohio State University Theatre Department, serves today as a
consultant to the SRO Board of Trustees.
The company has achieved much and received many honors and awards
over the years. The most
notable and those that mean the most to us are shared in the hope that you
will know us better and, if it is your wont, join
us in achieving our mission.
